Fanny Update - June 19, 2008

Fanny is recovering beautifully from her kidney transplant in Mexico seven months ago. Her new kidney is operating perfectly and her doctors just tested her for Lupus (the original culprit leading to kidney failure) and there is no sign of Lupus what-so-ever, a true blessing.

Fanny is scheduled to be in Colorado in late August to once again attend Metropolitan State College. She wanted to thank everyone for their support, concern and prayers.

Best Regards, Todd

Fanny Updates - January 11, 2008

Fanny is at her grandmother’s house in Chihuahua, Mexico resting and recovering and doing well. She did need to have another surgery on December 22nd to repair a leaky valve connecting her bladder; this was the second surgery on this valve since her kidney transplant.

So, this brave young woman has endured three major surgeries in 21/2 months, but the good news is that all seems to be well now. Her kidney function is good, no further leaks, and her Lupus is under control.

Thank you for your support and concern, please continue to keep Fanny and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Best Regards, Todd Clough

More on Fanny - December 10

Fanny’s new kidney is functioning well; unfortunately earlier this week the doctors in Chihuahua Mexico noticed a faulty valve and tube going into her new kidney and surgery was required to stop the leaking valve. This second surgery was successful and she is recovering nicely. However, this additional surgery obviously added to the hospital bill which put Fanny and her family in a difficult position. Although her doctors were ready to release her, the hospital in Chihuahua has a policy of not releasing a patient until the bill is paid in full. On Wednesday, December 5th we were able to make an additional payment, helped Fanny’s father sell some of his landscaping equipment and negotiate a monthly payment plan. With all of that in place the hospital released her late Wednesday night. She is at an uncle’s house in Chihuahua resting and feeling fine.

A lot has been accomplished in helping Fanny and her family through this ordeal but we still have work to do as we help the family raise money to make the monthly payments to the hospital. If you would like to donate to this cause or have additional questions regarding this matter you can contact Todd Clough at 303.629.0636 X223.

Fanny Update - November 28th

Fanny's underwent a Kidney transplant on Monday, November 26th. The surgery went very well and both her and her father Emilio (the donor) are resting well. Emilio will be in the hospital for three or four days and Fanny for a day or two.

As you probably know the next few weeks are a critical time in terms of Fanny's new kidney accepting its new home so please keep Fanny and her family in your hearts and prayers. Thank you for all of the continues support and concern

We continue to assist Fanny’s family in raising money for her medical procedures. If you have any questions or would like to help, please call Todd Clough at 303.629.0636, extension 223.

Fanny Needs Our Help (Original Article)

Fanny P. was born in Chihuahua, Mexico nineteen years ago. When she was six, her family crossed the border and moved to Denver, where she has made her home ever since. Fanny became a student at La Academia at the Denver Inner City Parish as a 10th grader. She has had a fabulous impact on the school as an exemplary student and gifted leader. She has made a positive impression on teachers, staff, fellow students, volunteers, community members, and DICP Board members; she is truly an exceptional person.

In the fall of her freshman year of college (last year), she became quite ill and spent months in and out of the hospital battling lupus, which had led to kidney failure. This past spring and summer brought a brief reprieve and hope. Unfortunately, days before she was to re-enter college this fall, her kidneys failed her once again.

Now Fanny is in critical need of a kidney transplant. As an undocumented and uninsured person, she is not eligible for public assistance to receive a transplant. Her family and her many friends, who have come to be known as Fanny’s Angels, are rallying around her with prayers, financial support, and getting the word out to assist her in this time of great need. Fanny traveled to Mexico in October and is currently awaiting a kidney transplant which is tentatively scheduled for mid-to late November.
